On
Thursday 20th March 2008 a team of gymnasts
from City of Liverpool and Olga trampoline clubs
travelled to Sweden to compete in the annual Frivolton
Cup International.
After
arriving on the Thursday evening the team got settled
into the hotel and promptly got involved throwing
snowballs at each other before settling down for the
evening. Friday morning was all about training and
getting use to the competition hall and equipment. The
gymnasts first training session in the morning was just
a light session to loosen up after the days travel.
Later that evening the second session saw the team get
straight to business with a fantastic training session
which caught the eye of most teams taking part.
Saturday was the first day of competition for the lower
age categories. Jason Ryall produced an outstanding
first two rounds to take the lead overnight from City of
Liverpool Rival Matt Buckley. Later that evening all the
gymnasts trained in preparation for their competition or
finals the following day.
Sunday
was the prelims for the junior and senior categories.
Both categories were highly competitive and it looked
like a straight fight between the Swiss National team
and the Olga/Liverpool team for the medals. The junior
boys were up first with Jordan George and Joe McAdam
both started well producing excellent set routines.
Again in the Vols the boys both produced strong routines
with Joe ending up in 8th and Jordan 11th
in this highly competitive U17 age group. The top 8
went on to the final and Joe jumped superbly to climb
and finish in 6th position. Unfortunately
Steven Williams of Liverpool who was winning that
category fell in the final, but Daniel Greaves performed
brilliantly to finish 3rd.
Jason
Ryall and Matt Buckly both held there nerve well in the
finals and finished in the order they went in 1st
and 2nd. Well done Boys!!
There
were two male seniors competing from Liverpool and Olga,
Jack Helme and Luke Rendell. Both competed nervous set
routines but then were outstanding with their
voluntaries, after the first two rounds Luke Rendell was
in forth place and Jack 7th. The Swiss
national team held the 1,2,3. The finals were very
exciting Luke Rendell produced another great voluntary
routine but finished just outside the medals in 4th
position. Jack couldn’t quite settle in the final and
fell as a result, finishing in 8th. The Swiss
national team were outstanding and just had that little
bit more difficulty than our boys to hold down the 1,2,3
positions. Still a fantastic result for Luke.
The
evening was finished in true style with a banquet for
all the performers and coaches before the travel home on
Monday. A Great trip and a Great competition. Well done
everyone……!!
