Izzy Songhurst Wins World Title as OLGA claims 4 Meadls at World Age Group Games!

OLGA had a fantastic world age group games winning 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. OLGA was involved in 6 finals in total across individual, synchronised and DMT.

Day 1,

Maddie Songhurst and Oliver Simonot competed in the 11-12 individual trampoline category. Both competed good routines with Maddie finishing 9th just 0.2 from the final. Oliver made a mistake at the end of his optional routine loosing 1.2 in difficulty which made it an agonising wait to see if he made the final. Luckily Oliver squeezed in in 8th position. Oliver who has only been back trampolining less than a year, due to serious knee surgery produced an outstanding routine in the final to finish in 6th position in  his first world age. A brilliant result.

Kirsty way represented OLGA and GB in the 15-16 DMT event showing precision with her landing to qualify to the Final. With two excellent passes Kirsty pulled up to finish 6th which is an amazing achievement.

Isabelle Songhust and Zainub Akbar teamed up for the first time in the 17-18 synchronised event to qualify in 1st position for the final. The standard was high in the final and the girls delivered a good routine to claim a Bronze medal for GB.

Day 2

Isobell Warren competed in the 13-14 gils event on day 2 of the World Age group game. Isobell’s first routine was a little shaky but she produced an excellent optional routine to finish a credible 19th position in a very strong field.

Maddie Songhurst teamed up with Active 8’s Jessica Clark in the 11-12 Synchronised category. Maddie already reigning World 11-12 Gold medallist was determined to add to her collection. The pair qualified in 3rd position into the final and performed a brilliant routine to finish with the Silver medal.

A Special mention must go to the 13-14 Boys trampoline team who qualified in 1st (Corey Walkes, Quay side) 2nd (Andrew Stamp, NTGA) 3rd (Rhys Nothover, City of Liverpool) for the final an incredible achievement. Corey ended up winning Silver and Andrew the Bronze in an Amazing Final. Well done boys.

Day 3

Day 3 started at 6.30 in the morning for reigning Junior European Champion, Isabelle Songhurst. Unfortunately she was being Sick due to Food Poisoning. Isabelle was due to compete in the 15-16 Girls individual trampoline event at 1pm but it was touch and go if she would be able to compete. At 12pm the doctor gave her the go ahead to try and warm up. Isabelle was the ice queen in qualification showing real determination and setting an example for everyone to follow, with minimal warm up she performed excellent routines to qualify for the final in 3rd position. After qualification Izzy went back to bed to try and rest for the final. At 6.30 in the evening it was the same story as the morning, Izzy being sick and the doctor not sure if she would let her compete. Izzy though had no doubt what she was going to do telling the doctor there was no way she was not competing. Eventually the doc gave the go ahead. With minimal warm up Izzy showed great composure under pressure scoring 51.9 to put pressure on the top 2 gymnasts from qualification. The Canadian struggled through her routine which meant only the top qualifying Japanese girl could take the Gold from Izzy. The Japanese Gymnast had a huge difficulty advantage but struggled to maintain form through the routine. Result Izzy was crowned 15-16 World Age Champion, a huge achievement.

Isobell Warren partnered up with Lucy Horan (Sheffield) in the 13-14 girls Synchronized event. The pair performed a good prelim routine but unfortunately just missed out of a place in the final finishing in position.

Day 4

Day 4 was all about Orla Adams who performed fantastically to make the Final of the 13-14 girls DMT competition. Orla was on a high and nailed her 2 final passes which was enough to land her the Bronze medal. Absolutely brilliant!!!!

Well Done to all the OLGA Gymnasts who represented Club and country with great professionalism and clean performances. Id also like to say a big well done to the whole OLGA TEAM of coaches who have all worked hard to help the gymnasts achieve their dreams.
