OLGA
boys took part in
the Regional National Development Plan
Finals at Exeter 15/16 March.
There were excellent results
by all the gymnasts
Ten boys aged 8 to 12 took part in
the National Development Plan, which was the selection
competition to qualify for the National Finals. In the
under age group Rees Bradbury, Cole Merton and Jed
Avissar all had an outstanding competition. Reese
received the highest score on the rings, high bar and
was overall first place, Cole with a consistent
performance and came in second with a total of 61.0
points, Jed came 5th overall with his
highest score on the vault.
In Primary 4, age 9, we had Sam
Budden and Samuel Roberts, both had outstanding
performances, finishing 1st and 5th
respectively, both qualify for the National Finals. Sam
was the top scorer on three pieces of apparatus and won
by a clear margin.
In Primary 3, age 10, Oliver Owen,
Shea Winstanley and Miles Jones represented us in the
toughest group, one point separated the top 6 place.
Oliver came 1st and had the highest score on
pommel, rings and high bar. Shea came in 6th
overall with a total of 62.950. Both these boys, showing
superb consistency throughout the competition, qualified
for the National Finals. Miles came in a fantastic 10th
place, accrediting himself with personal best
performances on pommel, rings and high bar.
Jamie Hendy competed in the Primary
2, under 11, category and finished 1st. He
scored very well, even as high as 9.90 on the parallel
bars. His competition was very tough due to the fact
that there were elite performance boys competing at this
level, so this was a fantastic achievement on his part.
Thomas Holroyd, our eldest
competitor, had a good performance exceeded our
expectation. He finished 2nd overall, with
his floor routine being his most improved piece of
apparatus.
"We are
very proud of all the boys, each performing above and
beyond our expectations" said Paul Urzica - Head
of Boys Gymnastics .
Jamie and Thomas will be going to the
National Finals, along with Sam, Samuel, Oliver and Shea,
representing South West Region. The Finals will be held
in Newcastle at the beginning of May, and
everyone at OLGA wishes
all the boys the very best of
luck.
