SPONSORED ROW
AND FUN BOUNCE On Sunday 2nd September 2007 two enthusiastic & fit (well some of us were!!!!) teams met at the gym to take on the Rowing Challenge to help raise monies for the World Age Championships in Canada. The 2 teams were:- THE COACHES:- Claire Haydon, Katrina Bailey, Luke Rendell, Marie Graham, Dave Graham, Rob, Jodi Songhurst, Phil Wood, Michelle Ryall & Paul Stickland. THE FISHERMEN:- Michael Bailey, Phil Berry, Steve Czarnokoza, Anth, Matt Haydon, Darren Haynes, Marie Stickland, Adam, Steve & Ian.
The
challenge was to row 100,000 metres in a target time of 6hrs
40mins. The first team member took to the rowing machine at
10am. After the first 50,000 The Coaches were on target, with The
Fishermen slightly behind. As we hit the second 50,000 The
Fishermen were beginning to lose ground, so decided to do blasts
of 1 minute per rower each. After 20 minutes this was proving to
be the wrong move as they were all beginning to look exhausted
(although the amount of burgers some of them were consuming may
have also had something to do with this!!!). The Coaches were
pulling away with about a 15 minute lead. Although in the lead,
The
Coaches were beginning to lose time and looked liked they may be
off the target time by about 5 minutes. It was then decided by
Sgt Major Dave Graham (scary!!!) that the team should start 1
minute stints as everyone was slowing up in their 2nd
minute. This proved to be a good move and The Coaches finished
their 100,000 metres in a time of 6hrs 41mins, with
The Fishermen
finishing 20mins later. Everyone, although totally exhausted, had
really enjoyed the day. Monies were also raised from a cake
stall, BBQ
and a fun bounce
organised by
Sharon . We will let everyone know exact money raised when all
sponsor money has been collected. A huge thank you to everyone
who was involved or came to support, and a special thanks to Dave
Graham for organising the event. |
